Finch was born in La Mirada Calif. and started playing softball when she was 5 years old. Doug his father, Doug, was her first pitching instructor. He also invented the Finch Windmill, a conditioning device that Jennie started using when she was 10 years old. When she was in high school, she pitched six no-hitters as well as 13 games that were perfect. While in college, she was a University of Arizona All-American first baseman and pitcher. When she was in 2001, her Wildcats team was awarded the National Championship, and again in 2002 she was awarded the Honda Award for the best softballer of the nation.
